Africa Travel Co is an overland tour operator running adventurous camping safaris throughout Southern and Eastern Africa. Africa Travel Co has been in operation for over 14 years now and we are proud of the fact that we are the only overland company with operational bases in Cape Town, Namibia, Victoria Falls and Nairobi. We also have 2 offices in Australia, which are situated in Perth and Sydney.

We have over 30 vehicles, which are owned and operated by Africa Travel Co. We use Mercedes Benz/MAN overland trucks, designed, modified and built for the best safety and comfort for our clients. Our vehicles carry full cooking and camping equipment, cassette players, exterior and interior lighting, roll up PVC sides with windows, lockers, long-range fuel tanks and all the trucks have 300 to 400 litre water tanks. We have also introduced a number of 4x4 Land Rover vehicles, which we operate our shorter small group safaris in.

Our trips vary from 3 day safaris to 56 day overland expeditions. We cater to a wide range of clientele and have something that will suite the need of every traveler. Our clients range in age and nationality but please bare in mind we do NOT have an upper age limit.

We are one of the few overland companies that have three crew members on all our trips. They are the Driver, the Tour Leader and the Safari Cook. All of our crew have a love of the country they travel in, which is one of the most important requirements for our trips. Most of the crew have spent quite a few years traveling through Africa and have extensive knowledge of the countries your clients will be traveling in. We feel that their enthusiasm as well as their experience will guarantee your client an unforgettable trip.

The Safari Cook generally does the cooking. Even though we have a cook on board with us we ask our passengers to participate in the preparation of meals on a rota basis. We purchase food daily from many markets and road stalls along the way, which is ably supported by a bulk buy of food prior to departure. Meals and menus vary a great deal, but rest assured we have a reputation for our excellent cuisine!

Our trips are camping trips and as such we use dome tents with sewn in ground sheets, and a separate flysheet. Most of the time we will be staying in campsites, which have sprung up with the ever-increasing demand of the overland companies. All the campsites we use on route have facilities, all though in East Africa some of the campsites may be a little more basic than those in Southern Africa.

On our trips we have a compulsory communal Local Payment. It is this fund that covers all our game park fees, three meals per day (unless otherwise stated on the daily itineraries) and all the camping fees.

In the actual Tour Price the following is included: a fully equipped Mercedes Bens expedition truck/vehicle, all cooking and camping equipment, driver, courier and safari cook, as well as the ‘Included Highlights’ as mentioned. Excluded are sleeping bag and mat, personal insurance, visas, items of a personal nature, meals taken in restaurants and optional excursions.

Most of our tours are structured with ‘Optional Excursions”. These are activities that clients decided to do and pay for whilst on tour. The Optional Excursions are listed clearly in order to budget prior to departure.

Africa Travel Co is the only overland tour company to have their own offices in East and Southern Africa, which allows us unparalleled support to our passengers and crew, should it be required. Our workshop in Cape Town is frequently use by other overland tour companies. It is fully equipped and available on request.

Africa Travel Co put together and conducts individual charter packages for tour coordinators from Australia, Germany, Spain, Netherlands, UK, and many more countries. With our experience and knowledge of Africa we will gladly design an itinerary to suit the needs of any request.

Public Transport Trips
These trips are aimed at the traveller who really wants to get off the beaten track and wants to experience Africa at ground root level. We now offer these pioneering trips for the adventurous traveller who would like to travel through East Africa on their own but may have reservations about safety and general organization of the trip. An experienced trip leader accompanies the group for the duration of the trip to organize transport, accommodation and activities – as well as advising travellers about money matters, providing information & giving genuine travel advice. Accommodation is a combination of dorms, huts, banda’s, bungalows, tents and cabins and transport – as the name states – is by genuine African public transport. These trips will appeal to the traveller who wants to steer away from our normal overland truck trips and simply wants to see where their travel leads them. We have planned the routes and have s mall number of set departure dates. Please note that these trips are not for inexperienced travellers – if you are unsure, rather book on to one of our truck safaris to get a taste for Africa, before embarking on these trips.
