Totally smitten by this, Ms Maude joined
him in his quest in river jousting by taking eager beavered,
wide eyed wannabe adventurers down various expeditions
through the Southern rivers of Africa.
After braving the mighty rivers together,
they decided after a period of time, to partake in a different
version of the ever-growing tourism trade. They laid their
paddles and boats to rest and armed with a leatherman,
maps and a truck, they hit the road in the Overlanding
industry.
Their
tales spanned countries, from dusty Namibia to dodging
Donkeys in Botswana. Bungi jumping in Zimbabwe to trying
to find a good road in Malawi.
This was a good time for Adam and Maude,
but still they wanted more. In 1998, they plucked up the
courage and moved onto the Orange River. A piece of land,
on this majestic river, even though overgrown, they decided
to call it home.
Not to grow pumpkins and feed the goats,
but to fulfil their dream of owning and operating their
own river company. As many a famous person has said, “We
have a dream”, so said Adam and Maude.
Here they married, as they developed and
grew their dream into a reality. Their “first child”,
Mufasa, a Staffordshire Bullterrier quickly proclaimed
this area his own. Marking the boundaries daily, this
land was his to reign.
In
every fairy tale, there is always a frog to be kissed
that becomes a prince. Zak is our "frog". Taking
under his belt the title of lead guide for Bushwhacked,
he still seeks the kiss that will transform him (!!!)
Around the time that Zak joined the merry
Bushwhacked clan, Kenneth was born. Now at 2 years of
age, he delights and entertains the visitors with his
antics and laughs. Chasing through the camp on his push
bike and enjoying the simple pleasures, that life has
to offer.
Now, as with any fairy tale, the ending
should include our couple walking off into the sunset,
with Kenneth between them and Mufasa not far off, and
so it is, but as they walk, Adam thinks out loud,
“heh heh, wait, there is
more to come…………………………………!!!!
”

Although we offer a variety of packages, such as 4x4 excursions,
camping facilities and group catering, our main focus
is to operate River Trips. Our scope ranges from a half
day's paddle to a 6 night river experience. Read below
the description for each trip and decide which one suits
you best. Bear in mind that these are our advertised packages.
Customised trips can also be created upon request.
HALF DAY+/- 7 km
The day commences with a transfer to our launch point
a few kilometres up stream. Here you are met by your guide
who will give a safety speech. Our half day's paddle down
the majestic Orange River ends at base camp. A tranquil
and peaceful time, paddling through the “green belt”.
There are no crocodiles, but Birds, Water Monitors and
much more which the guides will gladly share some interesting
information on. Throw a wave at the locals from both Namibia
and South Africa as they sit on the banks and fish. Sit
back in your boat and float gently with the current as
you realise this is one of the many “Heavens on
Earth.”
FULL DAY+/- 20 km
Our full day trip is a copycat of the Half Day trip, except
we launch further upstream from the camp, thus allowing
a longer time on the river. About halfway through the
trip, the guide will find a suitable bank for you to have
lunch. The inflatable boat (croc), turned upside down,
provides a fantastic table from which to serve lunch,
consisting of a mixture of salads, pies and cold drink.
After lying on the beach and soaking in the rays of the
African sun, we launch again to complete the second half
of the days’ paddle, ending at the campsite.
OVERNIGHTER+/- 20 km
Our Overnighter starts in the morning at Fiddlers Creek
base camp. After a pre-launch introduction and safety
speech, the Orange River experience commences. The day
is spent paddling through some of the world’s most
beautiful desert scenery, the green banks of the Orange
River, contrasting against barren looming mountain ranges
of the Richtersveld. Once lunch has been served, the afternoon
is spent paddling and drifting down the river before finding
a suitable spot to set up camp on the bank. Dinner is
prepared over an open fire and the evening is spent under
the twinkling heavens of the Southern Hemisphere. The
following morning after a hearty breakfast, we are met
by our 4x4 team who will take us back to base camp to
end our Overnighter.
OVERNIGHTER DELUXE+/- 20 km
Our Overnighter-Deluxe is a copycat of the above, except,
upon arrival at the dedicated camping spot for the night,
our 4x4 team would have already pitched our tents. A delicious
dinner will be in preparation, and a roaring camp fire
to invite us onshore. After a delightful meal and a restful
night’s sleep, you will enjoy a hearty breakfast
after which our 4x4 team will take us back to base camp
to end our Overnighter-Deluxe.
WEEKENDER (at Camp)+/- 30 km
Although named the "Weekender", this itinerary
can run any time of the week.
Meet at Fiddlers Creek Campsite for the first night at
camp where we have dinner prepared for you. The next morning
we serve a big breakfast before we are transported up
to the put in point which is about 14kms upstream from
Fiddlers Creek. We spend the day paddling down the river
with lunch served on the banks of the river. Throughout
the day we can stop to take photos, swim or nappy run.
In the afternoon we arrive back at Fiddlers Creek campsite
where we have dinner and spend the night. Again, after
breakfast we put in at the camp and paddle down stream
enjoying another relaxing day. When we reach our final
destination transport will be waiting to take us back
to the camp from where you set out on your journey home.
If you would like to stay another night we can arrange
camping and catering for you. The next morning after coffee
and rusks you can head off home or on to your next holiday
spot.
WEEKENDER (in Bush)+/- 30 km
Same as above, except initial launch is from camp, and
overnight on the banks of the river
4 Day - 5 Night+/- 80 km
We ask clients to arrive at Fiddlers Creek Campsite on
the evening prior to the trip departure date with dinner
served between 8.00 and 10.00 pm. The next morning your
guides will give you a pre trip briefing on what to expect
during the trip, you will be allocated your boats, shown
how to pack these and given an in depth safety speech
by your lead guide. After breakfast and packing all the
equipment into the canoes we get into the river from the
campsite to begin our four day river adventure. A slow
paddle to the lunch spot will see that everyone gets used
to the paddling and controlling the canoes. We set camp
out in the open, under the stars on the bank of the river,
at a site chosen by the lead guide, for the first evening.
On the river we provide toilet facilities. Full days of
paddling, swimming and walks - each night camping under
the stars at different sites further down the stream.
An early start after breakfast takes us to the take out
point at Ausenkhers or Sjambok where transport will be
waiting to take us back to the base camp where we spend
the last night. After coffee and rusks, the following
morning, you set out on your journey home.
6 Day - 6 Night+/- 120 km
Same as above, except for an extended time of 2 days on
the river.
