Location:
A satellite camp belonging to Shishangeni Lodge, Camp Shonga is
situated in a 15,000ha private concession in the south-eastern section
of the world-renowned Kruger National Park in South Africa.
Access: Access by road from Johannesburg
(approx 5 hours 30 minutes) or Maputo (approx 1 hour 20 minutes). Camp
Shonga is best accessed by road through the Crocodile Bridge Gate of
the Kruger National Park, from where it is approximately 14 kms to the
Camp. Air access is to one of the airports in the area: Kruger
Mpumalanga International Airport (KMIA) – 110 Km; Maputo Airport
(Mozambique) - 125 km or Malelane Airport - 70 km. Guests are met upon
arrival and transferred to the Lodge by road.
Accommodation:
The Camp can accommodate 10 guests in 5 individual tents, all
luxuriously equipped with en-suite bathrooms and ball and claw baths,
outside shower, ceiling fans, mini-bar, fireplace and private
game-viewing deck with recliner chairs and umbrella.
Facilities: The central facility
consists of a charming lounge area including a library and both indoor
and outdoor dining areas. Spacious wooden deck from which to sip drinks
as the game wanders past. A splash pool makes for relief between safari

Activities:
Located in ‘Big 5’ terrain, the ethos behind Camp Shonga is for the
guides to share their vast knowledge of varying eco-systems with their
guests, so ensuring an all-round safari experience.
Child
policy: Camp Shonga welcomes children of all ages and child-care is
available upon request. In the interests of personal safety children
under 6 years are unfortunately not allowed on game drives and only
those over the age of 12 years are permitted on game walks.
Communication:
The Camp has radio contact with Shishangeni Lodge, but no telephone or
facsimile facilities.
CAMP SHAWU
With authentic buffalo dung walls, Camp
Shawu paints a picture of the ‘real Africa’ described by famous
explorers of colonial times. Private decks overlooking the Mpanamana
Dam, present a masterpiece of an African landscape.

dam. All are luxuriously equipped with romantic ball and claw bath,
mini bar, sitting area facing open fireplace, ceiling fans and outside
shower. A large verandah with reclining chairs and umbrella is the
perfect spot from which to watch the game come down to drink.

With an emphasis on walking trails, guests can experience a typical
old-fashioned safari first-hand. Safaris in open 4WD vehicles are also
available.
