The 25 individually decorated en-suite
bedrooms combine traditional Old Cape atmosphere with
modern comfort and convenience. Beautiful authentic antiques
and faithfully copied reproductions grace all our rooms.
15 Luxury rooms are decorated with genuine period pieces
with several beds dating from the 1830's Georgian period
(Rooms 4, 5 & 9).
The
8 twin and 7 double luxury rooms are mostly situated in
the original building with six in the new wing which was
built in 1990. The new wing rooms were built to modern
hotel standards and have separate showers as opposed to
bath/shower combinations. Even though they are newer than
the old rooms by 170 years, they have all the charm of
the Old Cape and can boast some of the most beautiful
furniture.
The standard rooms have all the same amenities
as the Luxury rooms but are furnished with faithfully
copied reproductions. All the standard rooms are individually
decorated with 4 doubles and 6 twins. Some of the standard
rooms are situated in the old wing but 8 are situated
in a newer extension built in 1987. These surround the
courtyard and overlook the swimming pool area.
All
the rooms are fitted with airconditioning. Tea and coffee
facilities, a bar fridge (not stocked), radio and TV"s
with the M-Net Channel are available in each room. The
telephone system allows internet access but there are
no dedicated data points in the rooms. Don't fret though,
there is an Internet Cafe situated less than 100m away.
On the 2nd of April 1982, the well known
d' Ouwe Werf restaurant was opened. Regarded as one of
the culinary landmarks in Stellenbosch with traditional
dishes such as Bobotie, Smoorsnoek, Biltong Pate` and
Cape Brandy Pudding being choice examples of South African
Cuisine.
In addition to the extensive traditional
offerings, a full variety of lighter dishes is available,
including Continental Cuisine. We must boast that our
Baked Cheese Cake is regularly rated as the best in town.
Breakfast at d' Ouwe Werf consists of
a smorgasbord of cereals, fruits, juices, yoghurts, cold
meats and cheeses, muffins, toast and croissants. Followed
with warm courses. Tea and filter coffee are of course
available.
During the winter months, two fireplaces
keep guests snug while the air conditioning in summer
provides a welcome respite from the African sun.
In-house musicians softly tinkle at the
keys of our piano during the evenings creating a tranquil
romantic atmosphere. Our extensive wine list makes it
possible for d' Ouwe Werf Restaurant to be one of the
few places where one can enjoy old cape vintages often
dating back to the early 1980's or a carafe chosen from
a short list.
Our private courtyard with the swimming
pool at its centre is is a tranquil setting to prepare
you for an exciting day ahead. Its relaxing atmosphere
will also ease away any strains after a busy day.
The 24 hour secure parking will put your
mind at ease to relax and enjoy the atmosphere of Stellenbosch.
The Voorkamer will beckon you to linger
beside the old stove fire and sip a vintage wine for which
the region is famous. A serene closure to your day might
be spent beside the fire with a fine glass of port in
"de Kromme Elleboog" ("the raised elbow").
This room is sometimes used as a private dining room for
functions as well as a small meeting room.
d'Ouwe Werf is the consummate gracious
Inn with a fine tradition of service and hospitality.
