ECOLIFE EXPEDITIONS

EXPEDITIONS WITH A DIFFERENCE
Interested in what’s going on “behind” the scenes? Then EcoLife Expeditions are for you. Whether it be for pleasure or as a student of wildlife, EcoLife offers an exciting, hands-on, in-depth and educational experience. EcoLife draws its expertise from the Centre for Wildlife Management at the University of Pretoria and the Wildlife Management Education Program of the International Council for Game and Wildlife Conservation (CIC). During the expeditions you interact with rangers, veterinarians and researchers working in the field, giving you an insight into life, successes and problems associated with conservation in Africa today.

OUR VEHICLE
The vehicle used for the expeditions is a Mercedes Benz Safarimobile, which has been custom-built for group safaris. The vehicle has comfortable seating, with ample legroom, huge windows for game viewing and individual lockers. For a “bird’s eye view” a section of the vehicle opens, allowing guests to sit on the roof, in areas that permit it. An intercom system at each seat facilitates easy communication with the guide.

ACCOMMODATION
We supply all camping equipment including comfortable 2-man tents and mattresses. Please bring your own sleeping bag. We make use of a variety of campsites, ranging from sites with full amenities to rustic sites in remote areas. In some reserves accommodation will be in huts, chalets or safari-style tents.

GROUP DYNAMICS
Groups number between 10 and 16. Travelling in relatively small groups provides a more personal experience, and allows for more freedom in field activities. There is no age limit, however children under 16 are restricted to Family Expeditions.

About EcoLife International Universities Programs
EcoLife Expeditions is an extension program of the Centre for Wildlife Management, and has been conducting short-term field study programs for international students since 1999. Three study programs are currently presented, the Wildlife Management program, Vet-Nurses-In-The-Wild program and the Vets-in-the-Wild program.

Aimed at students of wildlife and veterinary science, these study programs offer an exciting, hands-on, in-depth and educational experience, taking students behind-the-scenes in the wildlife field in Southern Africa. The expeditions are in the form of a camping safari, and the duration is around 3 weeks.
Students interact with rangers, veterinarians and researchers working in the field, giving them an insight into life, successes and problems associated with conservation in Africa today.

EcoLife also designs special interest expeditions in the fields of predator ecology, birding, species-specific expeditions, anthropology, archaeology and the botanical biomes of Southern Africa.
