Barely
three hours from Johannesburg, in a secluded valley surrounded
by mountains, lies a place of beauty and relaxation. Where
nature provides the perfect recipe for undoing the stresses
of modern day life.
Franshoek Mountain Lodge can accommodate 22 people in
11 double rooms. The rooms all front out of a lovely sandstone
farmhouse which features a thatch bar and restaurant.
All meals are provided in this family style restaurant
which doubles as a meeting place for locals and guests.
Franshoek is a graded two-star guest house with a relaxed
country-comfortable atmosphere.
A
place where you can do some unusual things that give you
the occasion to broaden your horizons and enrich your
life in idyllic surroundings. One such activity is the
chance to saddle up and learn the sport of polo.
Back
when polo was the Sport of Kings, it was the nobility
who owned the land and the horses, and who had the time
to indulge themselves. Now, at Franshoek Mountain Lodge
and Polo School, we've put the land and horses at your
feet.
At
Franshoek Mountain lodge and Polo School, there are other
ways to horse around. From 2-day horse trails or hiking
trails that wind through over 2 500 hectares of exquisite
conservancy, to rock climbing and abseiling. From game
and bird watching, to trout fishing and dozing by the
pool, and more. You can take in the majestic beauty of
the Malutis on the way up to the caves and waterfall for
a picnic, admire the indigenous forest and the wonder
of dinosaur fossils or visit the local 'Sangoma'.
Resident
Polo Professional, Rodney Gutridge, has played polo professionally
all his adult life. He spent five years in England playing
with Prince Charles for the Windsor Park team and has
captained the Springbok Polo side.
