The Kalahari Sands Hotel and Casino is centrally situated in the city of Windhoek, the capital of Namibia and is 45 km (30 minutes) from Windhoek Airport.

Climate
In summer, the temperature in the Kalahari basin climbs up to 40 degrees Celsius and higher. The annual rainfall is rarely more than 100 mm, and can only be expected between December and April, when tropical thunderstorm activity extends down to the Kalahari basin. Then it rains huge amounts in a short time, and the desert transforms into a green oasis with colourful wild flowers all over.
In winter (June to August), the climate is pleasant. Then the air is dry, and temperatures lie around 25 degrees Celsius. But the nights are harshly cold.

Shopping
The Kalahari Sands Hotel and Casino is situated within the confines of the Gustav Voigts Shopping Centre, bringing you added value and hours of shopping pleasure. There are a range of specialist stores including safari outfitters, bakery and deli, designer clothing, jeweller, cellular, banks, and general service stores.

Gym
The Cardio-vascular exercise room situated next to the pool area is perfect for a training session or a general free-weight work-out. A sauna is also available and both facilities are freely available to guests.

Nearby Sports Club
A nearby sports club offers guests golf, tennis, squash and bowls. Horse-riding facilities are also in close proximity.

Swimming
The beautiful aqua blue pool is situated on the roof of the hotel. Pool towels and sun loungers are available free of charge to guests.

The Dunes
The Dunes is an informal restaurant offering an all day a la carte menu and a buffet carvery. The choices are sublime and only the freshest ingredients are used. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The Terrace
Overlooking Independence Avenue and located outside The Dunes Restaurant is The Terrace. An awning offers ample shade from the fierce desert sun and it is an ideal location to enjoy icy cocktails and refreshing cool drinks.

The Kalahari Sands does NOT offer self-catering accommodation. All rates are quoted in Namibian Dollar which is equivalent to the South African Rand. A minimum 2-night stay is required over weekends and a minimum 3-night stay is required over long weekends.
