The
Klaserie Camps are part of an exclusive privately owned
wildlife sanctuary, ‘The Klaserie Private Nature Reserve’,
which in turn is part of the Greater Kruger National Park.
The reserve lies to the west of the Timbavati covering 60
000 ha on either side of the Klaserie River. The private
nature of this wilderness sanctuary enables one to embrace
the African bushveld in one's own time - to take in the
sounds, sights and smells that make the bushveld such a
unique experience. The
camps, Nzumba Camp, Katara Camp and Timbila Camp, are
located in the north-western sector of the reserve, traversing
8000 hectares with extensive access to the Klaserie River.
Safaris within this untamed region of the Greater Kruger
National Park focus on the bush and its ecosystems, with
the added excitement of getting involved in the tracking
of Africa’s big game. The rangers have taken great
time to develop their safari to ensure that you come away
with a better understanding of this very special environment.
NZUMBA
CAMP Nzumba
Camp, located in a high lying area of the reserve is a
traditional African safari lodge with the thatched central
lodge looking south toward the Mariepskop in the Mpumalanga
Drakensberg. The camp accommodates 10 guests in spacious
thatched chalets with his and hers bathrooms and wide
verandahs for relaxation during the day. The lounge with
its leather chairs and memorabilia and dining room are
evocative of the romantic colonial era. Chalets that are
fitted with aircon, overhead fans and mosquito nets and,
each with private veranda. They flank both sides of the
main building each with mini bar. These are separately
set, each overlooking the pool and flowing lawns that
border onto the bush and a close-by water hole that is
often frequented by a variety of game. The Library, Formal
Lounge and TV Bar Lounge is situated in the double story
main building that provides for perfect viewing over the
waterhole from the upper veranda that leads out from the
bar lounge.
KATARA
CAMP
Katara
Camp, located on the banks of the Klaserie River accommodates
12 guests in beautifully decorated stone thatched chalets.
The central lodge with lounge, bar, pool, boma and viewing
deck overlooks the Klaserie River. The riverine vegetation,
the sound of water running through the reeds in front
of the camp and the views up and down stream from the
camp makes for a truly relaxing bushveld destination.
Four of the six double chalets are situated snugly upon
the riverbank, each with a magnificent view of the river
from the room, en-suite bathroom windows and private balcony.
The bathrooms are luxuriously fitted, each with bath,
shower, and toilet. Two double chalets are set higher
up, overlooking the riverbed with full en-suite bathrooms
and private outside showers. The expansive entertainment
area consists of an indoor lounge and outdoor lounge bar
from where one would step onto the front deck that leans
over the river edge. Above and below the bar, one would
respectively lead up onto the deck and dining area that
majestically guards over the river, and down into the
boma for warm African starlit evenings.
