Do
as much or as little as you please at Phelwana. View abundant game and
bird life as you walk trails through natural bush, laze by you private
swimming pool or enjoy the many resort facilities at the lodge.
Elsewhere tour Kruger Park, just 30 minutes to Orpen Gate, visit one of
various local wildlife projects or drive the scenic escarpment view
sites. Phelwana offers reasonably priced, fully-equipped, self-catering
accommodation under traditional thatch. If you do not wish to prepare
your own food in your spacious chalet, meals can be catered on request.
We
accommodate families at our comfortable chalets. Self-catering or
catered. Relax around your own pool while the men are out on a hunt.
Three hides are situated near water holes/dams. As
the motorist reaches the edge of the Great Escarpment the land tilts
and falls away to the eastern Lowveld below, revealing broad vistas of
savannah. The road descends to "Big Five" country near Klaserie and the
Kruger National Park beyond. Here lies Phelwana Game Lodge - your place
in the bushveld.
All accommodation at Phelwana Game Lodge is in
thatch-roofed, spacious units which are fully equipped for
self-catering. They are serviced daily and are fitted with fans and
insect screens. Bedding and towels are provided by you must bring your
own swimming towels. Children are welcome at Phelwana and units are
designed to accommodate either families or couples with small children.
The Bush Chalets, accommodating 2 to 6 persons
in two bedrooms, are situated in Phelwana's dense, natural bush so as
to ensure privacy. Each has its own private swimming pool and braai
boma.
The Hippo Cabins at Phelwana are twin bedded
units accommodating 2 to 4 persons. They are located at the dam and
braai facilities are provided on the deck of each cabin overlooking the
water. There is a communal swimming pool and lapa.
ACTIVITIES
It is the unique location of Phelwana Game
Lodge which makes it the ideal destination for nature lovers. Set in 160
hectares of unspoilt bushveld, the estate is home to 18 species of game
animals including zebra, buffalo, hippo, impala, giraffe, kudu and
nyala. Bird watchers will revel in the abundance of Lowveld birds and
you do not have to leave the lodge area to enjoy a true bushveld
experience. Guided game viewing excursions and night drives can be
arranged. Further
a field, Phelwana is the perfect base from which to explore the
Lowveld. An easy 30 minutes by car takes you to Kruger Park's Orpen gate
or visit the Kapama Cheetah breeding project or tour the spectacular
and scenic Panorama Route along the edge of the escarpment.
As the sun sets, you join other guests as they
gather around an open fire in the reed boma to share tales of the day's
activities. Night draws in and the sounds of the African bush accompany
dinner served under a star-lit sky.
FACILITIES
As mentioned Bush Chalets each have their own
private swimming pools and in addition, there are two communal pools at
Phelwana Game Lodge. Other recreational facilities include a trampoline,
jungle gym, putt-putt, biking trails and a games room which features a
pool table, table tennis, darts, board games and television.
Game
viewing at Phelwana is on self-guided walks, day and night guided
drives and a 10 metre tower for a bird's-eye view. You may watch the
plentiful birdlife from the comfort of your own stoep, walk the
indigenous bush or visit the dam where wandering hippo may be in
residence.
Phelwana
is fully licensed and typical South African breakfasts and dinners can
be provided - these are served in the reed boma. The shop sells curios
as well as essentials such as meat, other food items, snacks, cold
drinks and ice cream. There is a laundry, fax and telephone service on
request and a conference room is available.
