It's
a different world in the Tsitsikamma -where cascading
streams and unspoilt indigenous forest walks are followed
by quiet nights and a sky full of stars.
The
Inn is on South Africa’s famous Garden Route, in
a small settlement called Storms River Village. The village
is the centre of the forested, tranquil Tsitsikamma area,
and is the home of Stormsriver Adventures, the internationally-known
outdoor adventure operation. Bordering the village are
two national parks, one of them a pristine marine reserve.
A number of forest trails surround the Inn.
Within
an hour’s drive is the ecologically unique Baviaanskloof,
with breathtaking scenery all along a winding mountain
pass – the last road to be built by the legendary
Thomas Bain. Also about an hour away to the east along
an excellent national road is the famous surfing centre,
Jeffreys Bay, and another half an hour east is the city
of Port Elizabeth, with its beaches, world-class hotels
and restaurants, and The Boardwalk, a beachfront casino
development.
Within
an hour’s drive of Port Elizabeth are the Eastern
Cape’s latest attraction – a number of game
farms and ecotourism developments which have the advantage
of being malaria-free. Half an hour west of the Tsitsikamma,
also along a world-class national road, is the millionaire’s
playground of Plettenberg Bay – with its superb
restaurants, shopping, and legendary beaches. Another
half an hour to the west is Knysna, with all the attractions
of Plettenberg Bay, as well as a vibrant nightlife culture.
Cape
Town – now regarded as one of the world’s
most-preferred destinations
- is about seven hours away by road, a well-maintained
national route which passes through some of the most attractive
scenery in South Africa.
