an affordable, self-catering resort.
LOCATION
Only four hours drive from Johannesburg, Riverside Cottages
offers the city dweller the ideal tranquil setting from
which to explore the Lowveld and escarpment. Riverside Cottages
is ideally situated on the Hazyview/Sabie Road (R536) between
the Panorama Route and the Kruger National Park, 11km from
Hazyview and 33km from Sabie. The cottages lie on the banks
of the Sabie River, at the confluence of the Mac Mac and
Sabana Rivers.
FACILITIES
Riverside
Cottages is a small, privately owned resort with 11 cottages.
We have four- and six-sleeper thatched cottages. Four-sleepers
have one bedroom with a double bed and en-suite bathroom,
and two single beds in the lounge. Six-sleepers have two
bedrooms, each with a double bed and en-suite bathroom,
with two single beds in the lounge. River Cottage and Cottage
no 12 are six-sleepers, slightly larger than the others
and have two bathrooms. The resort can sleep up to 54 people.
Our cottages are self-catering and equipped with two-plate
stove, refrigerator, microwave oven, kettle, toaster, crockery,
cutlery, pots, pans and bed linen. Just bring your own food
and towels. Each cottage has its own veranda, cozy outdoor
braai facility and shady carport. Cottages are serviced
daily. There is a Lapa and communal braai area near the
pool for groups and small conferences.
Riverside
Cottages also offers a swimming pool, trampoline, tennis
court, and volleyball court, all next to the babbling Sabie
River. Volleyballs and cricket equipment are available for
residents’ use.
ACTIVITIES
The Matumi hiking trail, a beautiful route along the banks
of the Mac Mac River, is close by - a real treat for bird
and nature lovers. Reach it by crossing the river via the
pedestrian bridge.
You can also go quad biking or mountain biking through plantations
and stop at a spectacular waterfall for a picnic. Horse
riding among wild animals, river rafting, abseiling, kloofing,
tubing, hot air ballooning, river fishing, and game drives
in the Kruger Park and private reserves are some of the
adventures on offer nearby. We shall gladly book you on
the adventure of your choice.
We are centrally situated on the well-known Panorama Route,
with picturesque waterfalls such as Lone Creek and Bridal
Veil, as well as God’s Window, only a stone’s
throw away. We are within easy access of three of the gates
to the Kruger National Park: Phabeni Gate - 18km, Numbi
gate - 25km and Kruger gate 50km. You can take scenic day
trips to explore tourist attractions such as the Sudwala
Caves, Pilgrims Rest, Bourke's Luck Potholes, Blyde River
Canyon, the Shangana Cultural Village and the cheetah-breeding
project at Kapama. Picnic hampers can be arranged at reception
for day trips.
When you grow tired of your own cuisine you can enjoy a
meal in Capstone Restaurant on the premises offering breakfast
and Dinner. After some activities i.e. Quad biking, tubing
or rafting a person can visit our Tea/Beer Garden for some
light lunches and refreshments.
A number of good golf courses are a short drive away, including
the one at Skukuza in the Kruger Park. Hazyview is the nearest
town (11km) and offers shopping centres, a Post Office,
doctors and banks.
Riverside Cottages is for those who wish to get away from
the hustle and bustle of city life and want to relax in
beautiful, peaceful surroundings, with the option of exciting
nature activities nearby.
